A major upgrade of the Ethereum blockchain, “Shanghai,” is scheduled for around 22:27 UTC on April 12 (7:27 Japan time on the 13th).

Various groups in the Ethereum community are planning a “watch party” to see the first staked Ethereum withdrawal in real time in Shanghai.

“Shanghai”, also known as “Shapella” by core people, is the result of the “merge” (the transition from PoW to PoS) in September last year and the halving of Bitcoin (BTC) about once every four years. Likewise, it is an important event to watch for the cryptocurrency community.

For many people, it’s a fun moment, like laying out two pieces of cardboard in the middle of a meadow and looking up at the sky to see the eclipse.

Various communities are planning watch parties to find the best way to see their first staked Ethereum withdrawals. I picked up a few.

watch party

  • Ethereum Cat Herders, a decentralized project management organization that supports educational resources on the Ethereum blockchain, will host a “Shapella Mainnet Watch Party,” which will be live-streamed on YouTube. From around 6:45 on the 13th Japan time, here.
  • EthStakers will also be live-streaming (editorial note: the link is the same as above)
  • Nethermind will have its own livestream on how Shanghai will impact the crypto economy. From around 5:30 on the 13th Japan time, here.

Update! @EthStaker‘ll be hosting the Shapella Livestream from the @ethereum Protocol channels

Apr 12th, 6pm ET: 30 min before the fork.

We’re also hosting a @POAPart paint party, organized by @Logic_Beach – canvas opens 1 hr pre-fork. Add your pixels! https://t.co/i7TBM77po8

Blockchain Explorer etc.

  • Beacon Chain: The Ethereum blockchain explorer beaconcha.in is a great resource to see Shanghai up and running. Note epoch number 194,048. Now is the time for Shanghai to run and for staked Ethereum withdrawals to become available. You can check the status of your withdrawal here.
  • Wenmerge.com: Another popular site for merges. There is a dashboard that estimates queues for withdrawals. Estimates can be found here.
  • Etherscan’s Beacon Chain Smart Contract: For those who want to know how much ETH has been put into stake and how much it will increase or decrease after Shanghai, Etherscan will allow you to see the numbers change.
