Why Solana’s smartphone “Saga” is soaring in price on auction sites

The mainstream price is around 300,000 yen.

It has been revealed that the Solana (SOL) blockchain-enabled smartphone “Saga”, which was sold out on December 16th, was sold for $5,000 (approximately 710,000 yen) on the auction site eBay. This was reported by crypto asset (virtual currency) media The Block.

According to eBay listings, the selling prices of Saga’s successful bids range from the $1,200s to the $3,700s, but most appear to have sold for more than $2,000. Saga prices for new listings are bullishly priced, ranging from $5,000 to over $10,000.

The reason behind Saga being sold out and trading at a high price in the past few days is the sudden rise in Solana’s meme coin “BONK.” BONK gained a lot of attention after being listed on major cryptocurrency exchanges such as Binance (Global) and Coinbase, and its price increased by up to 1200% in a month.

I bought a @solanamobile for total 820$ with taxes and shipping. 🛒

Saga buyers will have the benefit of receiving 30 million BONK via airdrop, which is worth $650 (92,500 yen) at the time of writing.

Pre-orders for Saga began shipping in April of this year. The original price was set at $999 (142,000 yen), but due to slow sales, the price was lowered to $599 (85,000 yen) in August.

By the way, Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro is priced from $999.

Features of Saga

Demand for Saga has increased rapidly with the airdrop of BONK, and Solana Mobile, a subsidiary established by Solana Lab, has been developing it as a Web3 specialized smartphone.

Saga uses the Android OS and has features such as a 6.6-inch screen, 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM, a private key protection program, an NFT electronic market and a decentralized trading platform. Its processing capabilities are comparable to Apple’s iPhone 14, and it is optimized for Web3 experiences, including cameras and sensors for an immersive gaming experience.

Solana Mobile provides a mobile-enabled Solana blockchain dApps toolkit “Solana Mobile Stack” for developers. The dApp store also provides access to popular Web3 apps such as Magic Eden, StepN, and Jupiter.

OSOM Products, the American company that makes Saga, was founded in November 2015 by Andy Rubin, the creator of Android. It is a startup company founded by the former development team of Essential Products, an American smartphone manufacturer that was dissolved in early 2020.

In September 2022, OSOM announced the completion of a Series A funding round led by Solana Lab.
