Wintermute AMM Hacked for $160 Million

Another day, another crypto hack. This time, the algorithmic market maker (AMM) Wintermute was hit for some $160 million worth of crypto, spread over 90 different assets.

According to the crypto security analyst, ZachXBT, who has discovered the attacker’s wallet address, most of the appropriated funds are kept in the Curve Protocol DEX. In his wallet, the attacker holds over $12 million worth of wBTC, and more than $2 million worth of USDP and CUBE, respectively.

Wintermute’s representative stated that the hack targeted only the AMM’s DeFi operations. Due to the fact that Wintermute has twice the stolen amount in equity, the service is expected to resume regular operations in the next few days.
