World of Women, an NFT profile picture project, has announced the launch of the WoW Foundation that aims to encourage women to participate in the Web3 and metaverse space. The foundation has also received a $25 million grant from the metaverse gaming project The Sandbox, which will be provided to WoW over the next five years.

Launching the foundation on International Women’s Day on March 8, the NFT project seeks to drive “female inclusivity through education and mentorship.” The announcement noted:

“World of Women and The Sandbox will work together to achieve its mission of enhancing the open metaverse and encouraging more female participation through a series of interactive experiences.”

The blog post also revealed that The Sandbox has purchased the most expensive World of Women NFT to date, named Aurora, at 200 ETH. Co-founder and COO of The Sandbox Sebastien Borget tweeted the news and called ‘Aurora’ the “new queen of @TheSandboxGame metaverse.”

NFT artist Yam Karkai launched the World of Women NFT project with her partner Raphael Malavieille in July last year. The project included a collection of 10,000 NFTs featuring female avatars with a theme of diversity. Initially launched at a price of 0.07 ETH per item, the collection is currently trading at a floor price of 7.4 ETH on NFT marketplace OpenSea.

The NFT project saw an additional boost in February this year after Reese Witherspoon’s production company Hello Sunshine announced plans to develop films and television series based on World of Women (WoW). KPMG Canada, the Canadian arm of accounting firm KPMG, also recently bought a WoW NFT for 25 ETH.
