The winning works of CoinDesk JAPAN year-end and New Year special project “Web3 Senryu Contest” have been decided! On January 29th, four sponsor awards, an excellence award, and a grand prize were announced at the award-winning work announcement held at X Space.

Over 1300 entries were submitted. I was surprised and impressed by the unexpected angles and unexpected expressions, and although judging was difficult, it was a lot of fun. The eight special judges carefully reviewed the entries and decided on each award.

The four sponsor awards are as follows.

Cryptact Award

Web3 Gold medal for courage to step forward

Pen name: Unsui Yamasou

Selection and evaluation:Mr. Gaku Saito | Representative Director and Co-CEO of pafin Co., Ltd.
Since our company provides automatic tax return calculation tools, I initially thought I would choose a work related to taxes. However, as I looked at the works, I decided to choose something that would broaden the world view of Web3 and on-chain transactions. It started with the unfamiliar word “Web3” and translated it into a word that everyone knows, “gold medal”, and I felt that “courage to take the first step” also expressed the current reality.
Also, I may be reading too much into it, but I feel that the gold medal has a double meaning, and it also has the meaning of a reward, reward, or “monetary token” given to ecosystem participants in Web3.

Daiwa Securities Group Award

The future economic zone created by ST

Pen name: King Kongu

Selection and review: Mr. Takahiro Saito | Head of Open Innovation Team, Planning Division, Corporate Planning Department, Daiwa Securities Group Headquarters Co., Ltd.
Daiwa Securities is working on Security Tokens (ST). ST is still not well known, and there were only a few senryu featured in the submissions, but I chose a work that truly represents what ST is aiming for.
It matched ST’s concept of creating a new economic zone and was the most complete work.

Fintertech Award

Everyone is NISA, and I’m Ether first.

Pen name: Tecchan

Selection and review: Kazuya Aihara | Representative Director and President of Fintertech Co., Ltd.
Several members of the company selected it, and we felt it was the perfect choice. It is an excellent book that skillfully contrasts the trends in finance at this moment with the trends of Web3. “Everyone is NISA” expresses a desirable situation for a securities company group, and furthermore suggests that in the future, there will come a time when people who became interested in investing with NISA will also invest in Ethereum.
Moreover, the application was made at a time when expectations for approval of the Bitcoin ETF were high. It may have been due to the timing and the number of characters, but I thought it was great that he talked about Ethereum instead of Bitcoin.

bitFlyer Award

Web3 Passport to a new era

Pen name: Nansan

Selection and review: Yuzo Kano | bitFlyer Holdings Co., Ltd. Representative Director and CEO
Our company provides a DID (decentralized ID) called “bPassport”. In the Web3 era, the traditional login method using ID and password will change to a new authentication method called DID. This service is truly like a passport for the Web3 era.
From this work, I was able to read the meaning that we are entering a new era with Web3, and that those who have a passport called Web3 can step into a new era.

Excellent work award

New era Ieyasu to DAO DeFi

Pen name: Crawling Izu

Selection review: Mr. Takeshi Nagase | Anderson Mori & Tomotsune Foreign Law Joint Venture Partner Lawyer/NY State Attorney
This work had the most impact on me. The wording has a dynamic feel, and it is used as the title of a taiga drama. If Ieyasu Tokugawa saw DAOs (decentralized autonomous organizations), DEXs (decentralized exchanges), and DeFi (decentralized finance), he would actively utilize them instead of rejecting them. It perfectly matches the image of this new era.

Best work award

Everyone gathers to vote at 8:00 DAO

Pen name: Omochi Senryu

Selection and review: Mai Fujimoto | Co-founder of INTMAX, Co-founder of Japan Blockchain Week
This work received high support from all members of the jury. Personally, I played the songs “Dayo” and “DAO” from “8 o’clock Dayo! Everyone Gathers,” and even though I felt the generation, I thought this work was “cute” the moment I saw it. In addition, “all members gather together” is a good way to express the goodness of DAO. I felt that it was a wonderful work.

General review: Realizing the importance of projects that touch the “tea room” and the changing times

Sota Watanabe | Astar Network Founder, Startale Labs CEO
We are at a critical time for the mass adoption of Web3 and blockchain. At that time, I felt that it was very important to have a project like this that would hit the “tea room” and that my parents could also enjoy.
I haven’t had many fun and relaxed projects like this lately, so it was a nice break. The submitted works were of very high quality, and I was once again amazed by the creativity that Japanese people possess.

Mr. Fujimoto
There were a lot of really interesting works. Since I’m from Kansai, I thought it would be difficult to get a laugh, but there were so many funny works that I was confused.
Although it didn’t make it to the selection, personally I found “Inu Coin I’m Tired Patrasche” (Toyota Sakai) the most interesting. I felt that everyone had great taste.

Mr. Nagase
It was very interesting, as it contained trendy words such as DAO, DeFi, and NFT, as well as meme coins and dog-related senryu.
When I was working at the Financial Services Agency, the Mt. Ta. When I think about it, I feel that the times have already changed significantly for the Web3 Senryu project. It’s a new era, it’s the dawn of time, and I think it’s truly the future.

Yuki Kamimoto | N.Avenue/CoinDesk Japan Representative Director and CEO
I’m also a history buff, so I thought it was very timely and interesting, as “Shibusawa is also jealous of virtual currencies” (Chunsuke), and Eiichi Shibusawa’s 10,000 yen bill will also appear this year.
We would like to thank everyone who applied, even though this was our first attempt. I would like to continue this every year if possible.
